Trump threatened Monday with increasing tariffs against China again if Beijing does not eliminate retaliation tariffs that he put in the United States
Trump wrote on his social media platform that “if China does not withdraw its 34% increase above its commercial abuses already in the long term for tomorrow, on April 8, 2025, the United States will impose additional tariffs to China 50%, starting on April 9”.
“In addition, all conversations with China about their meetings requested with us will be fired! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin to take place immediately,” he added.

A High White House official said that this would be in addition to the “reciprocal” rate of 34% that Trump announced last week to enter into force on Wednesday and 20% that is already in its place, which achieves a total potential of a 104% tariff.
