London and Jerusalem – The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, arrived on Sunday morning in Israel, where he plans to meet with officials to discuss the war in Gaza.

“My approach will be to ensure the return of hostages, find ways to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches civilians and address the threat raised by Hamas,” Rubio said on social networks before his flight.

He added: “Hamas cannot continue to exist if peace in the region is the objective.”

The Secretary “is expected to transmit the priorities of the United States in the conflict of Israel-Ahamas and broader issues about the security of the Middle East, reaffirming the United States commitment to Israeli security,” according to the United States Department of State.

It is also expected that Netanyahu and Rubio discuss the planned Israeli operation to confiscate the control of the city of Gaza, the largest city in the Gaza Strip, said the State Department.

Israel issued an order last week that requested that the city’s residents evacuate, saying that the Israeli army would operate “with great force” within the city.
